City2Surf 2024 road closures and clearways

The 2024 City2Surf will be held on Sunday 11 August 2024. City2Surf is now into its 52nd running of the live event (and 54th event with two virtual run events), since it first started in 1979 with 2,107 entrants. Over the past 50 years City2Surf has transformed from a humble, local road race, to the world's largest fun run.

This year’s event is set to be a record breaker and the biggest ever with 90,000 runners registered to make their way along the world famous 14km course between the CBD and Bondi Beach.

Make a Donation

The event also plays an important role for a number of charitable organisations, with City2Surf runners raising over $55 million for charities in need since 2008, with the event aiming to raise over $3.5 million this year.

Runners and their supporters can make donations to their chosen charity through the fundraising section of the City2Surf website.

Use Public Transport

Runners and spectators attending the City2Surf fun run are advised to use public transport. Travel on transport is covered for participants and volunteers. Visit the City2Surf website for more details.

Road Closures

Major roads along and surrounding the 14km course from the Sydney CBD to Bondi Beach will be closed. 

  • Roads around Hyde Park near the start line will close from as early as 3:30am
  • Roads between the City and Edgecliff will close from 6am
  • Roads between Double Bay and North Bondi will close from 7am
  • Roads around Bondi Beach near the finish area will close from 6am

Roads in the city reopen first around 11:30am and roads through the Eastern Suburbs reopen progressively from 1pm, 2pm and opened by 4pm in Bondi.

To ensure the event course is clear of vehicles special event clearway parking restrictions will be in effect on both sides of the 14km course and on detour routes and streets surrounding the course.
