Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any funding available currently?

Next available funding will be for projects running between July 2026 and June 2027. Applications will open from Monday 23 March to Sunday 3 May 2026. An application link will be published on this webpage.

Other operational costs are not fundable. What are these costs?

Operational costs are expenses related to the operation of a business such as insurance, rent, vehicle leasing and payroll.

Capital investment is not fundable. What are these costs?

Capital investment relates to costs necessary to establish and operate the project. These costs may include the design and construction of buildings, structures, infrastructure and major equipment.

Is minor capital infrastructure or projects fundable in the Environmental Grants stream?

Yes. Minor capital items are fundable. These may be items that reduce carbon emissions, reduce waste to landfill, reduce potable water use or improve biodiversity. Examples of minor capital items that are fundable includes solar panels.

Individuals can apply for a Large Grant (Community & Culture and Placemaking streams) if under the auspices of a not for profit organization. Can Sole Traders do the same?

Yes. Sole traders and individuals may apply for a large grant in the Community & Culture and Placemaking streams if they are under the auspices of a not-for-profit organisation. The Auspice must be an incorporated organisation that receives, administers and acquits the funding on behalf of the applicant.

How can we check if our service/project is in Woollahra Council area?

How do a book a Welcome to Country for my event in the Woollahra area?

The Gujaga Foundation is the peak organisation leading language, cultural and research activities within the La Perouse Aboriginal community. Contact the Foundation to book a Welcome to Country, Cultural Lessons or Language Lessons. A Welcome to Country booking costs approximately $500, we recommend you contact the Foundation for a quote.

My project will have Council fees payable - can I ask for fee relief for these costs?

Yes. Your project or event may require the use of Council facilities or services, for example venue, park or reserve hire, waste services (provision of bins and waste collection services), licenses or permissions.

Your application must include acurate details of the associated Council fees. You should acquire a quote from Council before submitting your application to ensure acuracy. Changes can not be made to funding requests when applications close.

Contact Council’s grants team: grants@woollahra.nsw.gov.au (at least 2 weeks prior to your application due date) outlining:

1. a brief description of the activity and your requirements

2. your estimation of the fee total, based on fees published on our website. Include the number of hours/duration, location and other requirements (eg for venue or park hire include set up and pack away time).

Council will provide feedback which can be uploaded with your application. You must include these Council fees in your application budget. Council may cover part or all of your request for fee relief. Council will not subsidise or absorb any additional requests for fee relief or in-kind support.

My event will be held on a public road. What do I need to do?

You will need to complete an Activity application on public roads form. Further guidance is located on Council's Plan and promote an event page.

My event requires a Development Application. What do I need to do?

When will the next grant round open?

The next grant round will open from Monday 23 March to Sunday 3 May 2026 for projects that will run between July 2026 to June 2027. A link to the application form will be available on this webpage.
