Writing Groups at Woollahra Libraries
Are you currently leading a writing group and in search of a regular meeting space? Or are you an experienced writer passionate about mentoring others and building a creative community? Woollahra Libraries invites expressions of interest from individuals or groups wishing to contribute to a supportive and inspiring environment for emerging writers.

Woollahra Libraries Writer in Residence Program
The Woollahra Libraries Writer in Residence Program supports an emerging or established writer to focus on their craft over a 4-month residency.
The program includes:
- A dedicated writing space at Woollahra Library in Double Bay or Paddington Library, or a non-residential studio at the EJ Ward Community Centre
- A $2,000 stipend to support community engagement
- A year-long Writing NSW membership
- Opportunities to develop and deliver programs with Woollahra Libraries

Writer Development Workshops & Events
Throughout the year, we host a variety of writing workshops and events designed to inspire and support writers, from creative writing sessions to industry talks with established authors.

Woollahra Young Writers' Award
The Woollahra Young Writers' Award is a new annual award presented by Woollahra Libraries to celebrate and encourage the voices of young people. Secondary students aged 12 - 18 years who live or study in Woollahra or neighbouring areas are invited to submit original work in short story or poetry.
The award includes junior and senior categories, with winners receiving a $300 cash prize and a one-hour mentoring session with the relevant judge. Shortlisted entrants will also receive a literary prize pack.
Young Writers' Award Information
Woollahra Digital Literary Award
The Woollahra Digital Literary Award celebrates original literary work first published in a digital format. Established in 2017, the award highlights the richness and diversity of Australian writing across four categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, Poetry and Digital Innovation.
With a total prize pool of $7,500, the award is open to emerging and established writers alike. Previous participants include Vanessa Berry, Bri Lee, Madeline Gray, and more.
Entries open in Autumn each year, with the Awards Ceremony held in November.
Whether you’re experimenting with digital storytelling or publishing longform essays and fiction online, this is a chance to have your work recognised and celebrated.
