High Pedestrian Area - Road Safety Upgrade - Queen Street Woollahra
As part of Woollahra Council’s 2024/25 Infrastructure Works Program and in association with the Active Transport Plan 2023, Council’s contractor is undertaking works to reduce vehicle speed limits on Queen Street, Woollahra and in nearby areas.
This includes streets such as; Queen Street, Victoria Avenue, Halls Lane, Moncur Lane, Moncur Street, Dorhauer Lane, Spicer Street, Holdsworth Street, Alton Street and Ocean Street, Woollahra.
These high pedestrian areas were identified for upgrade in our Active Transport Plan in 2023. One of the aims of the 10-year plan is to deliver attractive, vibrant and safe walking locations for pedestrians, especially in our centres.
Works include; installation of new 40km/hr speed limit signs, speed limit pavement marking and street print threshold treatments to denote the High Pedestrian Activity Areas (HPAA).
The upgrades are scheduled to start on Monday 2 June 2025 and should be completed within 6 weeks, weather permitting.
The majority of work in the streets surrounding Queen Street will be carried out between 7am - 5pm Monday to Friday, and 7am - 1pm on Saturday. However localised night works will be carried out at the ends of Queen Street and Moncur Street, between 8pm and 4am, to comply with Transport for NSW regulations, which state these streets are classified as an arterial route.
