Draft Code of Meeting Practice

Council's current Code of Meeting Practice (the Code) was adopted by Council on 25 November 2024. On 29 August 2025, the Office of Local Government (OLG) released a new Model Meeting Code. 

As required under section 360 of NSW Local Government Act 1993 (the Act), Councils must adopt a new Code of Meeting Practice, with the new Code having to be adopted by Council, no later than 31 December 2025. 

On 24 September 2025, Council resolved to place on public exhibition Woollahra Council’s Draft Code of Meeting Practice, in accordance with section 361 of the Act. The Draft Code has been prepared in accordance with the Local Government Act 1993, the Local Government (General) Regulation 2021 (the Regulation) and the Office of Local Government (OLG) Model Code of Meeting Practice. 

The Model Meeting Code will apply to all Meetings of Councils and Committees of Councils of which all the members are Councillors (Committees of Council). The meeting principles of the Code are to ensure that Meetings are:

  • Transparent
  • Informed
  • Inclusive
  • Principled
  • Trusted
  • Effective
  • Orderly
