Disability Inclusion
Woollahra Council provides support for local residents living with disability through the provision of accessible community facilities, direct services, the allocation of grants and subsidies to local disability focused projects and through consultation with an Inclusion (Disability, Aged and Carers) Advisory Committee.
Our Disability Inclusion Action Plan
Under the NSW Disability Inclusion Act 2014, all local councils must develop a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP)(PDF, 2MB) every four years. These plans outline practical steps to improve inclusion for people with disability in the community.
The NSW Government has identified four key focus areas for DIAPs:
- Positive community attitudes and behaviours
- Liveable communities
- Access to meaningful employment
- Improved access to information and services
For more details, visit the NSW Government DIAP webpage.
Council's current DIAP (2022-2026),(PDF, 2MB) adopted on 27 June 2022, is in its final year and will be replaced by the 2026-2030 DIAP, scheduled for adoption in May 2026.
Our Achievements
Over the past four years, Council has delivered significant improvements, including:
- Installing beach access matting at Camp Cove
- Awarding $48,811 in grants to aged and disability-focused projects
- Adding accessible play equipment in playground upgrades (Lyne Park, Spring Street Reserve)
- Upgrading Trumper Park pathways for full accessibility
Looking Ahead
The 2026-2030 DIAP reaffirms Council's commitment to creating an inclusive community where people with disability can live, work, and visit with ease. Developed through extensive consultation with people with lived experience, service providers, the Inclusion Advisory Committee, internal staff, and key stakeholders - with support from the Physical Disability Council of NSW - the plan reflects community priorities for the next four years.
