Solar health check

Our Solar Health Check project is helping residents and local businesses get the most out of their solar energy systems and check for any issues. The project aims to:

  • Improve the performance of your solar system.
  • Detect any safety issues or non-conformances.
  • Advise whether your system needs to be repaired or replaced.

This is a joint initiative by Woollahra, Waverley and Randwick Councils.

Why check your system?

Many solar systems in the Eastern Suburbs were installed more than a decade ago, during the early boom in residential solar uptake. While solar technology has come a long way since then, many systems, whether older or newer, haven’t been regularly maintained or inspected.

Research from the Clean Energy Council suggests that up to 20% of solar systems may be underperforming, non-compliant, or even unsafe due to age, damage, or poor installation quality. To address this, our three councils have launched the Solar Health Check project as a free service for local households, businesses and apartment buildings.

How can you get involved?

To make it simple and accessible to get started, we’ve partnered with Diagno, an innovative Australian company that offers a remote solar inspection platform. Their technology enables fast, accurate solar system assessments, without the need for someone to visit your roof.

Who is eligible for a free solar health check?

  • Your building must be located in the Randwick, Waverley or Woollahra local government areas.
  • Your solar must have a functioning communications link (Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or 4G).
  • Your solar must be connected to the electricity grid.
