Watercraft storage

Introduction of the Dual Watercraft Storage Permit

To accommodate increased usage of kayaks and stand-up paddleboards, from 1 August 2025 Council will introduce an additional Dual Watercraft Storage Permit.

Dual Watercraft Storage Permit holders may store two kayaks or SUP’s (not including dinghies), provided both fit safely within the allocated rack. Dual permit fees are 50% higher than the standard Single Watercraft Storage Permit.  The current single watercraft permit format will remain unchanged.

Time Limit for Watercraft Storage

To address public feedback on the issue of underutilised storage racks, even though the waitlist is years long, from 1 August 2025 Council requires all new watercraft permit holders to actively use their allocated space within three months of receipt of permit.

The above policy updates aim to ensure fair and efficient use of the facility and to minimise idle occupancy of high-demand storage racks.

Storage fees

The yearly rental period for a dinghy storage space in a Council facility will commence 1 August and conclude 31 July (following year).

PERMIT TYPE FEE
Single Watercraft - Resident $355 per rental year
Dual Watercraft - Resident $532.50 per rental year
Single Watercraft - Non-Resident $650 per rental year
Dual Watercraft - Non-Resident $975 per rental year

Note: Fees are updated at the start of each financial year. Current fees valid until 30 June 2026. Please note Pro Rata fees are not available.

Impounding of dinghies

Craft that are stored in foreshore areas without Council authorisation will be removed where there is an adverse environmental and recreational impact or where suitable storage facilities are provided.

Watercraft that are derelict, abandoned or inappropriately stored in a storage facility may be impounded by Council Rangers in accordance with the Impounding Act 1993.

Watercraft storage permit stickers must be firmly affixed to the outside of the watercraft in such a manner as to be clearly visible. Any watercraft not displaying a current valid permit in this manner, (even though a permit may have been issued), will be impounded by Council Rangers in accordance with the Impounding Act 1993.
