5 best spots to enjoy a picnic

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to beautiful parks in our local area. Grab some friends and a picnic and make the most of the great outdoors. Here are 5 of our favourite local spots to enjoy a picnic.

1. Blackburn Gardens

There’s plenty of space to roll out a picnic mat in the luscious Blackburn Gardens. Set up shop under the shade of the beautiful fig tree. Make sure to pack your swimmers so you can go for dip at Murray Rose Pool.

2. Cooper Park

Cooper Park is one of our local area’s best kept secrets and is a top choice for a picnic. Here you’ll find lush greenery, a picnic area with tables and huts, playground, tennis courts and bushland walking tracks. Dogs are also allowed (on leash) so you can invite your four-legged friends too.

3. Parsley Bay Reserve

Parsley Bay Reserve is a great choice for a family picnic as there’s an enclosed swimming area, picnic tables and an all abilities playground. There’s also a short bushland walking circuit (15-20 minutes return) that takes you to a waterfall at the head of the gully. In summer, you’ll (hopefully) spot Eastern Water Dragons sunning themselves.

4. Robertson Park

Picnic next to the habour and take in the views at Robertson Park in Watson Bay. There’s a large grassed area with some shade trees, a heritage rotunda and a fenced playground. If you don't feel like packing your own food, you can buy some takeaway fish and chips from one of the local vendors. Be sure to head up to Gap Park to check out the view while you're there.

5. Rushcutters Bay Park

Rushcutters Bay Park is another great choice if you want to enjoy a harbour view while you picnic. The park has two sportsfields, a fitness station and a fenced playground. Dogs are permitted on leash at all times and off leash between 3:30pm and 10:30am.
