Celebrate Local Government Week
Published on 24 July 2025
Join us to celebrate Local Government Week, Monday 4 August - Sunday 10 August 2025 as we showcase the work Woollahra Council does and the diversity of services we provide.
This year we’re putting the "local" into Local Government Week with Love Local, a celebration of the people who make Woollahra so special. Small business owners, volunteers, the workers who clean our streets, the artists who celebrate our beauty and the children who play on our beaches and more - our part of the world wouldn’t be the same without them.
There’s so much to love about living, working and playing in Woollahra and we’re proud to be part of this community. We’re responsible for waste collection and recycling, street cleaning, planning controls, parks and playgrounds, libraries, a preschool, local events, community venues and much more.
During this special week we encourage people to explore some of the ways your Council is part of your daily life, and to participate in the events that showcase some of the things we do for the community. Check out some of the highlights below.

Upgraded Playgrounds
The Woollahra Council area has a range of historic gardens, foreshore parks, playgrounds and bushland reserves. Our dedicated staff are passionate about maintaining and revitalising our parklands.
Lyne Park Playground
During this year's Local Government Week, why don't you visit the newly renovated Lyne Park Playground, a popular recreational area, which has been upgraded to provide inclusive, imaginative and flexible play experiences for all ages and abilities.
Upgrades and new equipment includes:
- Double flying fox
- Four bay swing with seven types of swings suitable for a variety of ages and abilities
- Sensory walkway
- Water play zone
- Nature play area for older children and inter-generational recreational experiences
- An imaginative climbing and sliding flying boat - a playful nod to the site’s history as the former Rose Bay International Airport.
In recognition and celebration of the traditional custodians of the land, the Gadigal and Birrabirrigal people, engravings of spirit animals of local significance and Dharawal language words of welcome are incorporated into the playground’s concrete footpaths.
Offering an interactive, educational and textural play experience, the engravings by artist Shane Youngberry are a reminder of First Nations People’s connection to country.
This project is funded by Woollahra Council and the NSW Department of Planning and Environment’s Places to Play, Metropolitan Greenspace Program and the Australian Government’s Investing in our Communities Program.
