Thornton Reserve Playground Upgrade

As part of Woollahra Council’s Infrastructure Works Program, Council’s contractor is upgrading Thornton Reserve Playground, Bellevue Hill.

The final plan includes:

  • a 3m high slide on the embankment
  • a multi-functional play unit with a double slide and climbing features for younger children
  • a curved climbing structure designed for children aged 6+.
  • an accessible carousel spinner
  • a multi-user seesaw
  • a single rocker
  • a double-bay swing with toddler swing and a double-bay swing with 2 strap seats and 1 toddler seat.
  • timber hopping logs
  • two rope play elements
  • sandstone logs with timber rails for balance play and informal seatings
  • timber pod seats
  • curved seats, benches, table and stools
  • a dry creek bed with native plants
  • a new accessible entry and pathway
  • and an open grass area for informal kick-about and play.
  • an upper-body fitness station.

The work is scheduled to start on Monday 3 August 2026 and is expected to reopen in December 2026, weather permitting.

For safety, the playground will be closed whilst the works are taking place.
