Thornton Reserve Playground update

Thank you to everyone who contributed during the community engagement in late 2025 on our plans for Thornton Reserve Playground in Bellevue Hill.

Construction of the new design based on your feedback is expected to begin in mid-2026 and will take approximately 16 weeks. The playground will be closed during construction and is expected to reopen next Spring.

Are you adding food scraps to your green bin?

We’re keen to hear about your experiences using our Kitchen to Compost program – also known as Food Organics and Garden Organics (FOGO) – which allows you to put food scraps in your green bin, along with garden organics. This service has been available to Woollahra residents since 2008.

We would like to know how many residents are aware of this service, and what might help more people use it, which would reduce waste sent to landfill and create nourishing compost instead.

We invite you to share your feedback via a short online survey by Monday 23 March.

If you’ve never used your green bin for food scraps, we’d still like to hear from you.

Your feedback will guide improvements to the service and how we promote it to the community. Complete the survey for the chance to win a $300 voucher to spend at a local restaurant of your choice Your Say Woollahra.

Booking is essential – visit Coastal Biodiversity and Cultural Heritage Walk for more info and to reserve your spot.

Recycle It Saturday drop-off event

Items that can’t be recycled or disposed of in your bins at home can be tricky, but we have the solution! We’ve joined with City of Sydney and Waverley Councils to host Recycle It Saturday – a drop off event where you can bring a range of household items for recycling not suitable for regular disposal.

Every item you drop off is a valuable resource diverted from landfill that can be given a second life.

Bring your items to Alexandra Canal Depot, 67C Bourke Road, Alexandria (City of Sydney Depot) on Saturday 21 February between 9am and 3pm.

Before you head to the depot, it’s vital to check our website for a rundown of items which will and won’t be accepted on the day Waste and Recycling.
