Macquarie Lighthouse Tour

As you explore Macquarie Lightstation, the site of Australia's first lighthouse, a knowledgeable guide will share the history and recent developments behind this iconic Sydney landmark, including recent restoration work undertaken on the historic Greenway Wall. You’ll learn about the importance of this area for First Nations peoples and the dramatic changes to the coastline since the last ice age.

Plus: You’ll ascend the lighthouse to discover the lantern room and emerge onto the balcony for a sweeping view of Sydney Harbour and the Pacific Ocean. Access to the lighthouse is exclusive to this tour, don’t miss out.

This tour is restricted to people 12 years of age and over. People under 16 years must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost: $40 per adult, $24 per concession card holder. Companion Cards are accepted.

Day and time: Second Saturday of each month at 10:30am, 11:15am, 12pm AND 12:45pm. (Please note tour tickets are available for purchase 4 months in advance of the advertised tour date.)

Duration: 45 minutes.

Meeting point: Outside the entrance to Macquarie Lighthouse.

What to bring: Suitable walking shoes, filled-up drink bottle, hat and wet weather clothing (if needed).

Accessibility: This tour is not accessible to people with wheelchairs, mobility aids or prams. There are 100 steps to the top of the lighthouse and ticketholders are required to navigate a small doorway to enter the balcony.

Tour Conditions: This tour is not recommended for people with a fear of heights or heart conditions. A good level of fitness and mobility is essential for participants to enjoy this tour. There is no access to bathroom facilities onsite. The closest bathrooms are located in Christison Park (approx. 300m down the road).

Weather: Tours will proceed in all weather conditions unless it is deemed unsafe to do so and, in the event of unsafe or dangerous weather, ticketholders will be contacted by the Harbour Trust according to out Terms and Conditions. Entering the balcony is at the discretion of Harbour Trust guides.
