They are our sanctuaries: the places we spend time in to relax, connect with nature and grow our own produce. Now more than ever, we have come to appreciate our gardens and the benefits they bring.

Although it has been a challenging time for the community, Woollahra Council still wants to celebrate the green spaces which enhance our local area, so residents, businesses, school groups and community organisations are encouraged to showcase their gardens by entering the 2021 Woollahra Garden Awards for the chance to win some great prizes.

Whether your garden is big or small, we want you to share your creativity and sustainable gardening practices. Entries can be submitted in four categories:

  • Best Sustainable Garden (including school and community gardens)
  • Best Small Garden (including balconies, courtyards and townhouses)
  • Best Large Garden
  • Best Verge Garden

Judging criteria is based on garden design and landscaping, originality, plant selection, maintenance and overall sustainability including recycling and reduced water use.

Entries will be judged by Lorraine Emerson, President, Garden Clubs of Australia.

The Best Overall winner will be selected from applications in all categories and receive a $500 Garden Life voucher, all category winners will also receive a $100 nursery voucher and Highly Commended entries in each category will receive a $50 nursery voucher.

“While it has been a challenging time for us all as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we still want to recognise the hard work our residents, community groups and schools have been putting into their gardens, which have helped to enhance our local environment and have no doubt contributed significantly to lifting peoples’ spirits,” Woollahra Mayor, Councillor Susan Wynne said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the fruits of your labour and your creativity on display, whether you’ve started from scratch or have been nurturing an established space.”

Applications close on 15 October and winners will announced at a special presentation in November. All entries are to be submitted online at 2021 Garden Awards.
