We Stand With Ukraine
Published 1 August 2022
Following Woollahra Council's condemnation of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, we are supporting the following initiatives:
‘We Stand with Ukraine’ street signs
We’ve placed street blades on Fullerton Street, featuring a strong message of support (see above) 'We Stand with Ukraine'. Fullerton Street is where the Russian Consulate in Sydney is located.
Ukrainian Flag to fly on Independence Day
To show our support for Ukraine, we will be flying the Ukrainian Flag at the Council Chambers from Monday afternoon 22 August ahead of Ukraine Independence Day on Wednesday 24 August, 2022.
We are also encouraging other Councils to fly the Ukrainian Flag on Ukraine Independence Day.
Jobs support for displaced Ukrainians
We're sharing a link to a jobs board to assist displaced Ukrainians looking for employment. We encourage local businesses to list relevant positions vacant on the Australia for Ukraine jobs board.
Let's show our support
There are lots of ways you can support Ukrainian-Australians, refugees and also people living in Ukraine.
You can help provide emergency relief to those affected by the the war in Ukraine by donating to the Ukraine Crisis Appeal, which has partnered with Rotary Australia. The organisation has also set up a separate resettlement fund to help displaced Ukrainians resettle in Australia.
Understanding the Conflict in Ukraine
We recently hosted a special event Understanding the Conflict in Ukraine at the Woollahra Library Double Bay. Our panel, moderated by Michaela Kalowski, looked at the geopolitical factors at play and asked what are the historical, cultural and political dimensions to the crisis? How does the crisis impact global energy and manufacturing? And what are the implications for us here in Australia and the wider world? This event was part of our Ideas Exchange event series.
