This week is National Volunteer Week – a great opportunity to celebrate those who dedicate their time to making our community a better place to live.

More than 160 people help Council by volunteering in our libraries, at our Bushcare regeneration sites, and through our HarbourCare program. Our volunteers also help deliver meals and library resources to aged and isolated community members, and provide emergency support through the SES.

Whilst COVID-19 has meant temporary changes to some of our volunteering programs and that Council is unable to host our annual ‘thank you’ event for our volunteers, it hasn’t stopped our appreciation for everything you do for our community.

Our staff appreciate the work you are doing, either independently or alongside them. On behalf of Council, I’d like to express our gratitude for your contribution, which helps to improve the quality of life of many people and builds important connections within the Woollahra community.

If you or someone you know would like to become a member of Council's volunteer family, please visit our volunteer page, where you can explore the different opportunities available and sign up.

I’m pleased that playgrounds and fitness stations in our parks are open once again, following the reopening of our beaches and harbour pools for swimming and exercise. As restrictions ease, it’s vital that we all continue to comply with 1.5m social distancing requirements and gathering limits of 10 people for outdoor activities and practice good hand hygiene, so that this equipment can remain open for everyone to enjoy.

Our area has over 20 Crown land reserves, which are owned by the NSW Government and managed by Council. We are currently preparing plans of management for these reserves and would like your input to help guide how this land will be used into the future. Please take our survey and let us know what is important to you about these spaces.

If you’d like to receive updates about Council projects, opportunities to have your say, upcoming events, and details on everything that makes our local area great, I encourage you to subscribe to Woollahra News, our new monthly e-newsletter. You can sign up here.
