Make a new friend by registering for our Friendship Program

Published 6 September 2021

Are you feeling lonely during lockdown? Would you like to make a new local friend? Register for our Friendship Program and we’ll match you with people with similar interests for conversation and company.

Read about some of the experiences of other participants (*not their real names) and how beneficial they've found it.

Esther* says:

“I joined the Friendship Program as I have no family in Sydney and wanted to meet a like-minded person of similar age.

My friendship with Claire* started with going for walks, then progressed to enjoying lunches, boating trips on the harbour, theatre and shopping expeditions when shops were open.

We keep in touch with phone calls, email and SMS at least once a week, even during lockdown; so nothing has changed.”

Claire* says:

“I do not have any family in Australia and lost 3 close friends in the space of a few months so I wanted to make some new “close” friends. It is hard to find friends so thanks for helping!”

Cristina says:

“Because of Covid I was missing my social life. Once upon a time we had pen pal and now we have WhatsApp pal. I was lucky to find somebody to share interests, experience of previous life, education, language... Once a week we have a long conversation and it is pleasant to have a new friend during those times.”

Tom* says:

“I joined the Friendship Program because I wanted to connect with new people, share views and ideas and eventually develop a friendship. I enjoy our weekly phone calls and video calls and I look forward to catching up for a coffee or a meal with my new friend once we’re able.

I would personally encourage people out there to join the friendship program”.
