Dementia Action Week – 21-27 September 2020

Published 14 September 2020
In conjunction with the Woollahra Dementia Alliance we are hosting two free events during Dementia Action Week.
Dementia affects close to half a million Australians. That number is set double in the next 25 years. Many Australians will start experiencing the impact of dementia among their own family and friends in the coming years.
If we are to prepare for this increase, it is vital we clear up some of the prevailing misconceptions about dementia. People living with dementia can continue to live active and rich lives many years after diagnosis. It is our role as a community to do the best we can to support people living with dementia to live well for as long as possible.
The theme of this year’s Dementia Action Week is: “Dementia. A little support makes a lot of difference”.
The Woollahra Dementia Alliance and Woollahra Council are hosting events in line with this theme, hosting an art workshop that people with dementia can participate in from home, and a webinar that features a speaker with lived experience with dementia.
“The Woollahra Dementia Alliance is proud to host this event to help educate the community and challenge some of the conceptions about dementia. It affects so many people and is so important to speak about and understand,” Chair of the Woollahra Dementia Alliance, Joanne Jankelowitz said.
Everyone from organisations, businesses and community groups to individuals can play a role in building a dementia-friendly community by learning more about dementia or by becoming a Dementia Friend.
