Bus to Books a hit with locals

Published 22 August 2022
Do you love going to the Library but find it difficult to get there? Would you like to come and get help with library services and meet new people? We now offer a free bus service and morning tea for residents with mobility issues.
The Woollahra Libraries Bus to Books service picks you up from your home and takes you to Woollahra Library at Double Bay and operates on the fourth Thursday of every month from 9am – 12pm.
During your visit you can access our Library resources and browse and borrow our books, movies, magazines, and much more.
Local resident Diana Armstrong enjoys using the service and attended our recent Bus to Books morning tea on 23 June.
“It is a wonderful event that the Library puts on. It was a very personal occasion, so lovely to connect with the volunteers and we all learnt a bit about each other’s backgrounds,” Diana said.

“The Library has such a lovely atmosphere and there is always someone to help you,” she added.
Library Manager Jody Rodas said she hoped Bus to Books could be both a learning opportunity and also a chance for participants to meet new people.
"We have such a beautiful space here and we want to make it as easy as possible for our community to come and enjoy the Library. Bus to Books is a wonderful opportunity for people to come and browse through our books, get help with our services if they need it and have a social connection with others," Jody said.
The service offers a chance to have morning tea and conversation with some new friends, and also personalised help with borrowing books, audio books and accessing library service.

Eda Lee came along to a recent Bus to Books morning tea and was assisted by a library volunteer who helped her to download The Borrowbox app onto Eda’s mobile phone. The app allows Eda to access the libraries eAudiobook collection at home.
“The BorrowBox is wonderful. The Librarians are absolute angels and I’m thrilled that there are good, kind people that care about helping me. I was delighted to attend” Eda said.
The Bus to Books service also takes participants back home.
