This Emergency Ready Week, 19-25 September, The Australian Red Cross is reminding us of the value in being prepared  for an emergency as extreme weather becomes the new norm.

Whilst climate change is a big challenge for all of us, getting prepared for an emergency or disaster is easy. As little as five minutes can bring big benefits, and being prepared can make an emergency less stressful, give you more control, and reduce the impact on you and those you love.

Four simple steps can make you better prepared for any emergency:

  1. GET IN THE KNOW: about your risks, where to get information, and how to manage stress
  2. GET CONNECTED: by identifying emergency contacts, meeting places, and people who can help.
  3. GET ORGANISED: with important documents, medical information, insurance and pet plans.
  4. GET PACKING: with a list to help you survive and personal items that are important to you

The Australian Red Cross has a range of resources to help you prepare, including a Get Prepared app, survival kit, emergency contacts list, keepsake list, information to help manage stress and more. Find them at redcross.org.au/prepare.
