$120,000 in grants to support local initiatives

Provision of free transport to and from critical medical appointments for vulnerable individuals, and an innovative online art program enabling participants to explore their creative expression from the comfort of their homes are among the recipients of more than $120,000 in grants awarded to local community groups and charities as part of our 2020 grants program.
Grants were awarded across three categories: Community and Cultural Grants providing funding of up to $7,500, Placemaking Grants of up to $7,500 and Environmental Grants of up to $2,000.
Thanks to our Environmental Grants, this year several local schools will be installing: outdoor learning spaces including bird, frog and native bee habitats; water tanks; solar power and edible organic gardens.
Unique initiatives to receive funding under the Placemaking Grants include inventive street art and lighting installations to help bring people safely together throughout the local government area during COVID-19.

Woollahra Mayor, Councillor Susan Wynne thanked all grant recipients for their commitment to enhancing the experience of visitors to local shopping and commercial areas, to the implementation of sustainability projects in schools and the creation of a vibrant and connected Woollahra community.
“We are so grateful to the many organisations in the Woollahra community who have submitted such great ideas that will enhance our neighbourhoods and help to build social connections – these initiatives are particularly important given what we have all been experiencing in 2020,” Mayor Wynne said.
“Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and physical distancing restrictions, this year applicants had to think differently as in many instances, more traditional community events will not be possible. I’m really pleased with the innovative proposals we have received and am excited to see them realised in the coming months,".

The Men's Table Limited | The 'Woollahra Communities of Men' project will see the formation and ongoing support of three Men's Tables held in the Woollahra local area, attracting local residents and workers.
