5 minutes with Sibella Court

Sibella Court - May 2013

Sibella Court is a sought after stylist worldwide. Sibella has worked in New York for Bergdof Goodman, Bloomingdales and Saks Fifth Avenue; has a successful store in Paddington The Society Inc; worked as Interiors Editor for Grazia magazine; is a judge on Channel 9’s design show homeMADE; and her beautiful interior design books can be found on our Library shelves.

Who is your favourite author?

I have so many. Today it is Roald Dahl. His children's stories are classics, but it is his adult books that have stayed with me.

Where was your most memorable holiday?

Right now I am working on Gypsy, my fifth book which features five trips from last year. Transylvania, Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands, Scotland, Indochine and Turkey are at the forefront of my mind right now as I shoot and write for an October release!

Do you have any hot writing tips for beginners?

You have to have a great love and belief in what you are doing. From the get-go, have a system and make it a happy place! Books are not easy to bring together, and are very personal - so it is always important to get them just right. Stay true to your vision and strap yourself in for a tough but rewarding ride.

If you could replay a moment of your life over and over again, what would it be?

Hanging with my Mum.

What was the best thing about writing Bowerbird: creating beautiful interiors with the things you collect?

Going through all of my collections and in a way, creating an archive of them that I could keep myself, and share with others. It is like my own little library.

Want to know more about Bowerbird?

Bowerbird - May 2013

Sibella Court’s wanderlust has made her one of the world’s most sought-after stylists and creative directors. Much like her avian counterpart, the Australian bowerbird, Sibella is famous for creating interiors that entice and inspire from found objects, beloved mementos and upcycled furniture. In Bowerbird: creating beautiful interiors with the things you collect, Sibella’s new book of ideas and interiors, she shares her approach to achieving unique style, a firm believer that our own collections, imparting the memories they do, are a vital part of any home. In this, her most personal book yet, Sibella showcases her love of collecting and her own collections. From shells to vintage hardware and to portraits of moustached men, this book of practical inspiration shows you how your belongings can be a centrepiece or subtle elements that reflect your space, your apartment, your house and your passions.
