What was the last good book you read?

I adore reading. One of the favourite parts of my routine is reading in bed each night. And I loved Beartown by Fredrik Backman. The book is set in a tiny Canadian town where ice hockey is everything. A scandal engulfs the small community and we learn about it from some key characters in the town. It’s beautifully written and it made me weep.

Do you have a favourite Library?

Of course- Woollahra Library at Double Bay! I wrote most of Diary of a Crap Housewife from my favourite corner (if I was early enough each morning to grab my preferred window seat!)

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever read about yourself or your work?

I learnt long ago not to read it! Life is too short.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

I’m always looking for inspiration from those closest to me, as well as from quotes in books and movies. This is one I love from character ‘Aunt Frances’ in the movie Practical Magic.

My darling girl, when are you going to realise that being normal is not necessarily a virtue. It rather denotes a lack of courage.”

What inspired you to write your book?

The older I get the more honest I’ve become and I care less about what ‘everyone else’ thinks. However I haven’t always been as forgiving on myself. Life isn’t perfect- it’s messy, chaotic and joyful. And I’ve always been a big believer in the power of connection through storytelling. Diary of a Crap Housewife is my way of sharing my tales of imperfection- so it doesn’t matter if you can’t cook or your house is a mess. Instead what matters is seeking out what brings you joy in life. And for me that is my family, friends, fashion and cats!
