“The truth of the story lies in the detail” - Paul Auster
The right details are what turn ordinary writing into extraordinary writing. They are what give stories the element of recognition and allow the reader to suspend disbelief. Whether writing fiction, non-fiction or memoir, the things you choose to put in are important, and you need to choose wisely and consider what to leave out. What are these details and how do we find them? In this seminar we practice the art of looking closely and incorporating concrete and unique detail in writing exercises. We consider resources for research, ethical considerations and sources of inspiration.
