Woollahra School of Philosophy returns to give new perspectives on a topic that affects everyone.

Is free speech actually ever free? How far does or should the right to free speech go?

In the age of social media, there's almost no limit to how speech can be heard and affect people. Anyone can say anything – but at what cost? Where do we draw the line between a person’s right to express an idea and when that idea causes harm or slander? And what does that tell us about our democracy and our views on how a society should function?

In this panel discussion moderated by Michaela Kalowski, we’ll unpack moral questions around free speech, its limits and how members of the community, journalists and law makers grapple with understanding and legislating ‘freedom of speech’ issues.
