On Thursday 16 November 2017, Woollahra Council held the inaugural event for The Woollahra School of Philosophy. Over 80 people gathered in the event space at Woollahra Library in Double Bay to engage in a philosophical discussion on The Moral Challenge of Climate Change. Experts on the panel included philosopher Professor Jeremy Moss (UNSW), climate historian Professor Iain McCalman (University of Sydney) and Nature Campaigns National Manager Suzanne Milthorpe (The Wilderness Society). The discussion was moderated by ABC interviewer and facilitator Michaela Kalowski which addressed the myriad ways that climate change poses a significant moral challenge in which justice, equity and values are central. Response from the local community for this new forum series has been overwhelmingly positive with those present praising this new initiative and looking forward to future events for 2018.
