Small grants announcement

Published: 15 December 2011

Woollahra Council has announced the winners of the Small Community and Cultural Grants for October with five not-for profit organisations sharing $4,230 in funding.

Alzheimers Australia (NSW), Baha’i Community of Woollahra, Bondi Outreach Program (BOP), Junction House and Sisters of Charity Outreach will receive up to $1000 to pursue initiatives that make a positive contribution to the local community.

The funding will support the following projects:

  • Alzheimers Australia (NSW) - A visitation by the Mobile Resource Community unit to Woollahra. The Mobile Resource Community Unit aims to support residents who may be carers of a person with dementia by providing free, comprehensive and specialist health information in 23 community languages.
  • Baha’i Community of Woollahra – To implement a culturally and spiritually uplifting program to promote harmony and a more inclusive sense of community.
  • Bondi Outreach Program – Continuation of a late Friday night outreach service for youth from 8pm to 4pm. By having a presence on the streets during the busy Summer season, BOP aims to make both the streets and the young people safer.
  • Junction House - A Hawaiian-themed dance party held for the purpose of educating carers about Disability Services Information.
  • Charity Outreach - A Volunteer’s Christmas Liturgy to celebrate and acknowledge the invaluable contribution of volunteers over the last 21 years in community service under the Sisters of Charity Outreach.

Woollahra Mayor Susan Wynne congratulated the community on the scope of exciting projects put forward.

“It was inspiring to see a high level of new and innovative projects during our 2011/2012 grants program. We are proud to have provided organisations with almost $70,000 to support positive community programs such as seniors’ programs to youth mentoring services.

“I congratulate this year’s recipients and encourage those who missed out to enter our next grants opportunity opening in May 2012,” she said.

Council’s grants program seeks to support organisations, groups or individuals who provide an activity or program that works towards a connected, liveable, vibrant and creative community in the Woollahra Local Government Area.
