White Ribbon

Published: 25 November 2011

Woollahra Council is a proud supporter of the White Ribbon Foundation and White Ribbon Day (Friday 25 November) and has raised more than $3000 to help the Foundation stop violence in women's lives.

The White Ribbon Campaign was established to change attitudes and behaviours that support or excuse violence against women in Australia.

Earlier this week the Mayor Susan Wynne completed 30 laps of Redleaf Pool as part of the campaign and, last night, she was back behind the microphone at the White Tie Event at Woollahra Council encouraging residents to take action to stop violence against women.

More than 90 people from across the East took part in the event which was supported by Woollahra Council, Holdsworth Community Centre, Community of Schools in the Eastern Suburbs and Bondi Beach Cottage.

White Tie Ambassador Dr Phil Lambert, a Regional Director at the NSW Department of Education and Training, urged men and women to speak out against violence and to challenge behaviours and attitudes that have allowed it to continue.

On behalf of Woollahra Council, thank you to everyone who has supported the White Ribbon campaign this year.
