The Cutler Footway has been closed for some time due to safety concerns. The steel support attaching the footway to the bridge has corroded and is rusting away, making it unstable for pedestrian use.
Joint owners Woollahra Council and the City of Sydney have been working together to conduct structural, heritage, environmental, traffic and cost assessments. Reports have now confirmed that replacing the Cutler Footway is the safest and most viable option to resolving the problem.
The City of Sydney are currently preparing designs for a new footway which include:
Some associated roadworks will commence in early 2018 with the aim to start work on the footway replacement in mid-2018.
Alternative walking routes are shown on signs at both ends of the bridge. We will continue to monitor these routes to ensure they are safe, clean and well lit. Free bus access across the bridge for anyone who has difficulty using the alternative walking routes will continue. We will provide you with access arrangements during construction as soon as these are finalised.
We appreciate that the process has unfortunately taken quite some time and we're grateful for your patience while we find the best solution.
