The public is invited to attend a meeting of our Strategic and Corporate Committee at 6pm on Tuesday 6 December. The committee, which includes all Councillors, will consider the assessment report on the development application for 33 Cross Street, Double Bay (the old Stamford Plaza hotel site).
The DA for Cross Street was submitted in August this year. It proposes to demolish the Stamford Plaza Hotel and construct a mixed retail, residential and cinema complex.
The five cinemas will be capable of accommodating up to 600 patrons. They will be accessed from an entry and stairs from Cross Street. If approved, we are advised that they will be run by independent operator Palace.
The ground level includes a two storey arcade to an open courtyard which, in turn, links with the Galbraith walkway and a public laneway to Transvaal Avenue. The existing underground carpark will be refurbished to provide carparking for 154 cars.
Above the two storey retail and cinema levels, the proposal includes seven levels of residential apartments providing a total of 74 dwellings.
The Eastern Region Joint Regional Planning Panel will make the final decision on this application. It will consider the matter for the first time on Tuesday 13 December.
