The proposal is for the demolition of the former Stamford Plaza hotel and construction of a new 9 storey mixed use development with cinemas and retail on the ground and first floor levels and residential apartments above.

Councillors considered the assessment report from planning staff and resolved to advise the Joint Regional Planning Panel that the application should be refused for reasons relating to excessive height, bulk and scale and non-compliance with Council's planning controls.

The application will be determined by the Sydney East Joint Regional Planning Panel on Tuesday 13 December. The Joint Regional Planning Panel meeting will be held at Council's offices at 5.00pm.

People who want to make a submission to the panel must register with the panel secretariat before 4.00pm this Friday 9/12/11, by calling (02) 9383 2121 or email angela.kenna@planning.nsw.gov.au.

Mayor Susan Wynne said she is encouraging people to have their say on the development.

“This is an extremely controversial development which has generated strong opinions both for and against,” she said.

“The Joint Regional Planning Panel will be making the final decision on the development."

"If the community want to be heard before this decision is made they need to contact the panel secretariat.”
