SEMPs - School Environmental Management Plans
Making your school more sustainable
Woollahra Council (contacts, services, projects and plans)
In 2007, a support network was set up for all schools in the Woollahra and Waverley areas. Interested teachers, parents and others meet once per term to discuss sustainability in schools, find out what other schools are doing and learn about the resources and programs that are there to help. Grants for environmental projects by schools and community groups (close in June)
Environmental Sculpture Schools Competition
This is a Council-run competition held in conjunction with the Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize.
The theme of the 2008 competition is 'Keep the sea plastic-free'. Entries close Friday 17 October 2008.

A new resource for schools, featuring a huge range of info, links and resources
Wipe Out Waste (Recommended by Woollahra Public School)
WOW is an interactive waste education program for schools, with lots of teaching resources, case studies, tips for cutting down on waste at school and games for students.
Ollie's World
A comprehensive and highly interactive sustainability resource, with one section designed for educators and another section for kids. Contains lesson plans, games, movies and lots more.

Below are some recent events run by Cranbrook Junior School.
‘Nude Food Day’!
Parents were asked to make their child’s lunch as ‘nude’ (wrapper-free) as possible, to highlight the issue of excesive food packaging. This event was publicised at assembly by the Environment Committee, who wore very little except a sign promoting the event!
World Environment Day
Each grade wore a different colour to represent the Earth (Yr 3 - blue for the ocean; Yr 4 - brown for the land; Yr 5 - green for the forests; Yr 6 – white for the polar caps). Students brought a donation and money raised was donated to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). ((include picture))
Earth Hour revisited
On World Environment Day, electrical appliances were turned off for one hour to reduce electricity usage. This included any computers, lights and heaters not in use.

It’s a living thing
Tips for living sustainably
The Woollahra area has about 75 hectares of bush land in nine reserves. Our vegetation communities contain 311 native plant species, including two threatened and one vulnerable plant species. More information
Bushcare is a program in which volunteers help Council regenerate and preserve Woollahra's bushland. Through the Bushcare program, we work to protect local bio-diversity, natural ecosystems and preserve the habitat of native flora and fauna. More information
