Frequently Asked Questions

Who is the preschool for? - Our preschool is available for 3-6 year olds. We are a three-unit centre, catering for 60 children per day. We offer two-day placements to 3 year olds and three-day placements to children who will go to school the following year. Families do not have to live in the area to be eligible to attend.

Who provides the service? - Woollahra Preschool is one of the quality community services provided by Woollahra Municipal Council who employ a non-teaching director to lead a team of 11 dedicated staff including an in-house cook.

Each group of 20 children is cared for by two staff - one teacher with a four year university degree in Early Childhood Education and a childcare worker who has a two year TAFE diploma in Childcare Studies.

What is provided? - In partnership with the child's parents, a high quality educational curriculum including: Language and Literature, Mathematics and Science, Music and Movement, Art, Craft, Drama and Construction, is planned with developmentally appropriate experiences to meet the interests and abilities of the children. We aim to extend the interest and build upon the strengths while facilitating social competence to ensure every child reaches their potential to become a resourceful, contributing member of the group.

Our music teacher provides a sequential music and movement program based on the Kodaly method, twice a week.

Home cooked meals are prepared daily in accordance with the Australian Nutritional Society.

Bed linen and individual hand towels are provided.

Digital and computer technology are used in each of the rooms.

In addition, we boast an enormous shaded playground offering great scope for exploration, adventure and gross motor development.

We offer a thorough transition to school program, which involves interaction with our local school.

When is the preschool open? - We adhere to a typical school calendar of four, 10 week, terms, without the pupil free days. The centre opens Monday to Friday at 8.45am and closes at 3.30pm. Families are encouraged to arrive by 9.30am and return after 2.30pm to collect their preschoolers.

How to enroll? - Your child may be placed on our wait-list as early as 18 months. We charge a $40 processing fee and ask you to provide a copy of your child's birth certificate.

To request a wait list package, please phone or email to leave your postal address or download a form here. To familiarise yourself with the preschool, you are invited to attend one of our introductory tours held at 10am on the fourth Thursday of each month.
