In recognition of community members of Woollahra that have demonstrated excellent citizenship and contribution to the people of Woollahra and/or the wider community, Council host its 2007 Woollahra Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards.
Nine residents of Woollahra were nominated for the Woollahra Citizen of the Year and one resident for the Woollahra Young Citizen of the Year. All nominees have voluntarily undertaken activities that have demonstrated excellent citizenship, enhanced the quality of community life and contributed to the well being of others in the community.
The winner of the 2007 Citizen of the Year Award is Professor Ross Steele and the winner of the 2007 Young Citizen of the Year is Mr Jason Wells.
The nominations, in alphabetical order, are:

Mr Peter Sheldon of Rose Bay – nominated by Ms Pamela Hanebuth, Director of The Grace Child Care Centre.

The 2007 Woollahra Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year Awards were announced at a presentation held at Woollahra Council Chambers on Australia Day, 26 January 2007 between 10 am – 12 pm. The presentation was hosted as part of the 2007 Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and was followed by light refreshments.
The Australia Day Council allocated author Esther McKay to attend Council’s 2007 Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony and Citizen of the Years Awards presentation as the official Australia Day Ambassador for the area. Following is some brief biographical information on Esther McKay:
Esther McKay served in the NSW Police Force for seventeen years, attaining the rank of Detective (technical) Senior Constable. She worked in Forensic Services for fifteen years, specialising in crime-scene examination and vehicle identification. She has a Diploma of Applied Science in Forensic Investigation (NSW Police) and was awarded the National Medal of service in 2001. Esther retired Medically Unfit, Hurt on Duty in 2001.
Esther was recipient of the 2003–2004 Australian Society of Authors mentorship program, where she worked with Gabrielle Lord on the manuscript of Crime Scene. She now lives in Sydney with her husband and two children.
