Introduction
Woollahra Library and Information Service provides free access to computers as part of the information services to patrons. The Library is pleased to make this service available as part of the commitment to provide free and open access to information, educational and cultural resources for Library patrons of all ages and backgrounds.
The library supplies access to the Internet and MS Office applications and networked CDROM’s on the following terms and conditions. By using the library’s computer service, patrons agree to these terms and conditions.
The Internet is a vast and unregulated information network which offers an unlimited access to a wide variety of resources. Public libraries have no control over the information available through the Internet and therefore can not be held responsible for its content and use.
Guidelines
Computers are available at Double Bay and Paddington libraries for Internet and general computer use. To ensure fair and evenhanded access to the computer resources for all patrons, the following rules and procedures have been devised to help regulate computer access at Woollahra Library:
- At each service point a number of computers have been set aside primarily for Library catalogue use and related databases.
- Public access computers can be booked a maximum of one hour per day. Bookings can be made up to one week ahead.
- Patrons are limited to one booking per day. If no one else has booked the computer the patron can continue until the next booking which then has priority.
- Bookings can be made over the phone or in person at the circulation desk.
- When computers are in high demand bookings will be cancelled if the customer does not arrive within 15 minutes of the scheduled starting time.
- Public access computer service will cease 30 minutes before the library closes.
- Patrons must present a valid Woollahra Library card or a temporary Internet only card in order to book and gain access to computers for the use of MS Office applications, Internet and email.
- Casual visitors to the area who do not have a library card can book once only for 30 minutes. For further bookings membership is required.
- Patrons are responsible for securing personal information. This includes logging out of email, banking, exiting out of personal documents and any other sensitive information the patron does not wish to share.
- Patrons are to ensure that material which is pornographic, offensive or objectionable to other members of the public or staff is not displayed in the library. Patrons who fail to comply may have their access privileges removed.
- Woollahra Library respects the responsibility of all parents/legal guardians to guide their own children’s use of the library’s computer services.
- Internet users are liable for failure to comply with all applicable international, federal and state laws, including censorship, copyright and software licensing laws. Applicable copyright laws have been posted near terminals for your information.
- Library staff will assist with basic instruction in the use of the Library computers and Internet access. However, it is not the role of the Library staff to offer detailed assistance or tuition.
- Any technical problems must be reported to the library staff.
