Regular events

The Woollahra Library & Information Service is launching a new Children's Program for 2009 which is tailored to the needs of children and young adults of various ages.

Sessions are running at our various library locations and will commence in the first week of school term on Wednesday 28 January 2009.

An outline of the new program is provided below: 

Rhyme Time (for babies aged 0-2)
Rhyme Time combines rhymes, music, singing, board books, puppets and toys to develop early literacy skills. The session is followed by free play time.

Double Bay Central Library:
Fridays 10:30-11:00am

Paddington Library:
Thursdays 10:30-11:00am

Preschool Storytime (for children aged 3-5)
The Preschool Storytime is designed to aid the development of children’s literacy, listening, reading, viewing and drawing skills in preparation for school. Sessions will be complimented by songs, rhymes and craft, and parents will be provided with information and skills on early literacy development.

Double Bay Central Library:
Mondays 10:30-11:00am

Paddington Library:
Fridays 10:30-11:00am

Watsons Bay Library:
Wednesdays 4:00-4:30pm

Children's Book Club (for children aged 8+)
Book Club aims to bring children together in an informal setting and atmosphere to discuss books, suggest new titles for the library to purchase, contribute to a blog and generally have fun!

Double Bay Central Library:
Last Thursday of the month
3:30-4:30pm

Storytelling (babies/toddlers)
This storytelling session is designed for carers with their babies and toddlers.

Holdsworth Community Centre & Services:
Tuesdays from 10:30am

Summer Reading Club - Read on the Wild Side

Go wild reading this summer in the Summer Reading Club!

Membership is free and all members get unlimited free reservations from Monday 30 November 2009 to Wednesday 27 January 2010!

Receive a gift for the first 10 books read, plus every 5 books read gives you an entry to win a major prize.

Get hold of your Reading Log from Monday 30 November 2009 at any of our library service points to begin the challenge! The Summer Reading Club ends on Wednesday 27 January 2010. 

Suitable for children up to 12 years.

Don't miss the many library events and activities happening this summer, including the Read on the Wild Side Taronga Zoomobile Party, poetry competition and nature walk.

Summer Reading Club: Poetry Competition

Prove your poetry prowess with the Summer Reading Club Poetry Competition!

To enter you just need to be a kid aged 12 and under and write a poem about something wild. You are only limited by your imagination!

Entries should be no more than 3 pages in length.

All entries go on display in the library and the winner receives a book voucher valued at $50!

Entries open on the 30th November and you can download an entry form here (626.4 kb).

Move with Jaguar-like speed and get your entries in to one of our library service points by Wednesday 27 January 2010.

Walk on the Wild Side: Nature Walk

Take a walk on the wild side with the Summer Reading Club!

Enjoy the beautiful scenery in Parsley Bay Reserve while learning interesting things about the bush on this special children’s nature walk.

Please bring a hat, suitable clothing and closed in walking shoes. Morning Tea will be provided and all children must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

This walk is suitable for children aged 6-12 years.

Bookings essential.

Taronga Zoo

Summer Reading Club Party: Taronga Zoo

4th Feb 2009 3:30pm-5:00pm

Come along and celebrate the end of the Summer Reading Club with this very special Taronga Zoomobile Party!

See Australian animals up close; including a snake, possum, frog, echidna, lizard, young crocodile, cockatoo and Tawny Frogmouth.

Why not come dressed as your favourite Wild Animal? Be a lion, a tiger, a frog or an eagle. Just use your imagination!

Suitable for kids aged up to 12 years. Light refreshments will be provided.

Bookings are essential.
