Rhyme Time for babies (0-2 years)

It's free, fun and an interactive program designed for babies aged 0 to 2 years. The session combines rhymes, singing, board books and musical instruments. Rhyme Time encourages parents and carers to become fully involved with their babies and toddlers by associating books and songs with parental time and attention.

This program is run during school term only.

  • Double Bay Library - Tuesday 3:30pm & Friday 10:30am
  • Paddington Library - Thursday 10:30am & 3:30pm
  • Watsons Bay Library - Thursday 10am & 10:30am **

** Please note - A ticketing system is in place for Watsons Bay due to limited space. Numbers are limited to 25 per session and tickets will be made available at the door from 9:30am. Each child may only attend one session per day.

Storytime for preschoolers (3-5 years)

Storytime is an opportunity for preschool children aged 3 to 5 and their parent or carers to share the joy of literature, language rhythm and rhyme. Each session consists of a theme which incorporates songs, rhymes and a craft activity which helps to promote reading readiness. All this and it's free!

This program is run during school term only.

School Holiday Activities

Each school holidays we hold exciting and fun activities for primary aged children. Please note that bookings are required via Woollahra Council's Eventbrite page. Details will be released a month before school holidays commence.

Drop in: Paper mummy (3 years +)

Wrap each other up in crepe paper and turn yourself into an Ancient Egypt mummy!

Drop in session, no bookings required.

Wednesday 8 April, 10.00 - 11.00am

Marvellous mummies (5-7 years)

Join Egyptologist Dr Eve Guerry to learn all about Ancient Egypt and archaeology. Engage in a fun and hands-on experience to piece together Egyptian artefacts. Try writing in hieroglyphics, reconstruct the pottery and decode the bones and inscriptions of Ancient Egypt.

Archaeology Adventures (8-12 years)

Be an archaeologist for a day. Dr Eve Guerry takes us through an archaeological investigation of an Ancient Egyptian tomb, searching for the mummy! Be challenged as each team completes all the archaeological tasks to discover the secrets of Ancient Egypt revealed by the relics.

Writers & Readers for Young People: Gabrielle Tozer (12-18 years)

Gabrielle will talk about how she got her two novels, The intern and the sequel Faking it published. She has written and subedited for numerous titles, such as Cosmopolitan, DOLLY, Girlfriend, TV WEEK, Bride To Be, Mamamia, Prevention, The Canberra Times and News.com.au.

What have they ever given us in return? The aqueduct? Sanitation systems? Roads? Medicine? The Romans built an empire of gigantic proportions. Hear and see how fascinating Roman life was from Dr Bruce Dennett.

‘Then and Now’ performance (6-13 years)

‘Then and Now’ looks at the determination, courage and good humour of Australian women. Using story-telling techniques, puppets, and audience participation, you are transported back in time to explore the vast differences between the way things were done then, compared to now.

Kids Club (for school aged children)

Kids Club is a fun-filled program for primary aged children held once a month at Watsons Bay Library (on the last Wednesday of the month) and Double Bay Library (on the last Thursday of the month). The sessions start at 4pm and go for just under an hour. Each session offers something new and exciting to do! Guest presenters, games, cool crafts, snacks and light refreshments! Please note that bookings are required.
