With the recent completion of preliminary site works, construction of stage 1 is now proceeding. Stage 1 involves building on the area of the site to the south of Kiaora Lane. The construction period will be from 30 January 2013 until April 2014. We have prepared a Facts Sheet (PDF) which contains additional information on the construction program and some of the measures in place to limit construction impacts on residential and commercial residents.
During this period the Kiaora Lane carparks will be closed. We have made changes to public parking arrangements in Double Bay (PDF) to reduce the impact of the carpark closures. There is sufficient capacity at the Cross Street public car park (200m to the north of Kiaora Lane) to accommodate vehicles previously parked at the Kiaora Lane and Anderson Street car parks. Both the Cross Street and the Cosmopolitan Centre car parks offer one hour free public parking. Up to two hours free parking at the Cross St car park will be available to customers of businesses on the south side of New South Head Road (subject to ticket validation). Stage 1 includes 442 public parking spaces and these will become available in May 2014.
All of the New South Head Road properties will continue to have managed access to the rear of their properties in Kiaora Lane. Delivery and parking needs of business will be managed by Woolworth's contractor, Ganellan.
A construction management plan for the following works associated with stage 1 has been prepared with a view to minimising impacts on surrounding commercial and residential properties. The plan includes a Site Boundary and Works Plan (PDF 2.51MB)and relates to the following works:

Woollahra Council has entered into a joint venture with Woolworths to deliver a $110 million redevelopment that is set to revitalise Double Bay.
This involves the redevelopment of the existing Woolworths site on New South Head Road, council's Kiaora Lane and Anderson Street car parks, as well as a number of properties in Kiaora Road and Patterson Street.
It includes a new Woolworths supermarket, a range of retail, commercial and speciality stores, a new three storey state-of-the-art public library and a car park that will provide 442 car spaces.
The development is expected to generate an extra $100 million in revenue for the local economy when it is completed and will create up to 300 new jobs.
Preliminary site works have been completed allowing for construction of stage 1 of the development, comprising that part of the site to the south of Kiaora Lane, to commence. The construction of stage 1 will take place from January 2013 until April 2014.
