Winners

Category A – Heritage items

Winner

99 Yarranabbe Road, Darling Point

99 Yarranabbe StreetArchitect: Andrew Burges Architects
Heritage consultant: John Oultram Heritage Design
Builder: A.N.T. Building

The property which was in poor condition and originally proposed to be demolished, has been retained and conserved. A new rooftop addition in zinc is wonderfully resolved and respects the original face brick façade.

The conversion of internal rooms into more fluid spaces has opened up and enhanced the interiors in a fascinating way, allowing appreciation of the curving exterior walls.

The additions demonstrate a clear understanding of the heritage values of the building while overlaying contemporary planning and amenity that respects the bones structure of the original house.

The layout achieves maximum environmental amenity through careful arrangement of internal elements, cross-ventilation and thermal and acoustic mass.

The building respects and conserves the historic streetscape of Ocean Street.

A very successful insertion of contemporary architectural language into an important historic streetscape.
