No 64 Paddington is a grand 4 terrace house located on the northern side of Paddington Street. It is paired with No. 66. The house was built as a terrace house, was subdivided as 'York Flats', and was renovated to become a single residence again in the 1970s.
The current owner purchased the house in 2008. The house required extensive restoration and reconstruction. The 1970s additions were tired.
The brief was to create a family house, with contemporary amenity, connection to the garden while still maintaining the Victorian character. The design has worked with the Victorian architectural character of the house rather than being overtly modern. It exhibits a clever use of space in the adaption for contemporary living. The undercroft was reworked and an additional bedroom was created as an attic room The design is also respectful of the 'paired house' which is important consideration in the Paddington DCP.
