Reduce, reuse, recycle

The average Australian produces more than 10 times their body weight in garbage each year. And every Australian throws away 6.9 billion plastic bags annually. If these bags were all tied together they would stretch around the world 37 times.

  • Avoid plastic bags
  • Get a compost bin or worm farm to reuse your food scraps as compost for your garden
  • Buy green. Purchase products that have less packaging or packaging that can be recycled or made from recycled materials
  • Give away unwanted items to charity, or organise a swap party
  • Recycle all paper products. Every tonne of paper recycled saves almost 13 trees!
  • Recycle plastic and glass bottle containers, cartons, aluminium cans

Transport

Approximately 2.3 kg of carbon dioxide is released from a vehicles exhaust for every litre of petrol used.

  • Use public transport where you can, car pooling with family and friends
  • Choose a more energy efficient model as your next car
