Green Power is the clean energy produced from renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and hydro-power. The NSW Government runs the Green Power national accreditation program that regulates the provision of renewable energy products offered by electricity suppliers to households and businesses across Australia (NSW Government 2005).
Council purchases three types of electricity for:
Council currently purchases 6% Green Power for the operation of large sites. By purchasing Green Power for Council's highest energy using sites, Council abated over 268 tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2007/2008.
Council is further reducing the greenhouse gas emissions generated through the operation of sites and facilities. Council has recently signed a contract to supply energy to Council’s small sites with AGL that includes the supply of 25% accredited Green Power.
