What we are doing

Woollahra Council has spent significant time and energy seeking to mitigate the effects of climate change through a number of programs and initiatives. In addition to these mitigation efforts however, Council is now also developing ways to adapt to climate change impacts.

Council projects include:

We are also developing a Climate Change Adaptation Plan which will spell out a clear way forward as we look to adapt to the changing climate of our area. This plan will be released later this year.

State of the Environment Report

State of the Environment (SoE) reporting enables councils to report on the state of the environment in their local area and the progress of environmental activities undertaken during the reporting period.

SoE reporting is a statutory requirement under the Local Government Act 1993 (LG Act). Every council in New South Wales is required to prepare a SoE report as part of its reporting obligations.

A comprehensive SoE report is to be prepared the year following a full council election, with a supplementary report prepared for the years between.

A comprehensive SoE report provides a detailed look at the Woollahra environment and includes a lot of background information, ie soil types, vegetation communities. This background information is not repeated in supplementary reports, therefore, it is recommended that supplementary reports be read in conjunction with the last comprehensive reports.
