Christison Park Sports Lighting

Christison Park is one of Woollahra’s largest sporting venues, providing four winter season fields and three cricket pitches in summer.  The current lighting level for night training does not meet the minimum requirements to satisfy the relevant standards.

To ensure lighting is provided suitable for night training and to cater for additional demand for night training opportunities a proposal has been developed which involves:

  • Removal of the existing floodlight pole
  • Installation of seven 25m high floodlight poles
  • Lighting to levels to achieve minimum level required for training purposes (50 Lux)
  • Lighting to conform to the Australian Standard AS4282-1997 – Control of the Obtrusive Effects of Outdoor Lighting.
  • Lighting to be permitted to operate Monday – Friday from sunset until 9pm.  It is unlikely the grounds will be used every night in the suggested hours.  The proposed permissible hours of operation will provide Council and the sportsground users the flexibility to use the venue on those nights depending upon demand, weather conditions and the like.
