Woollahra Council is undertaking a 28 day Public Exhibition of the draft Redleaf & Blackburn Gardens Plan of Management and Master Plan.
Council, in partnership with landscape architect consultants, Aspect Studios has undertaken the revision of the current 1997 Redleaf Plan of Management and is now seeking feedback from the community on the revised draft Plan for this significant community asset.
Recommendations in the draft Plan took into consideration information received in two Questionnaire Surveys undertaken in 2011 and 2015 to determine the aspirations and needs of the community. Council received a total of 147 responses from both surveys.
The Vision for Redleaf states “Redleaf will continue its role as Woollahra’s administrative home, providing the opportunity for a range of public recreational and cultural events. The diverse natural beauty and high quality environment will provide public access to Sydney Harbour within a well maintained and safe garden setting that is sympathetic to the rich heritage of the site”.
The draft Redleaf & Blackburn Gardens Plan of Management and Master Plan identifies and resolves site issues and opportunities that include improving access within the site without drastic reduction of usable recreation space impacting, through excessive infrastructure, on the heritage character of Redleaf.
The draft Plan enhances the Murray Rose Pool facilities, retains and improves the parks passive green open space, enhances the beach café space while continuing to offer seating in both sun and shade locations for the community’s enjoyment. The draft Plan responds to Council’s recent actions to deter anti-social behavior with additional recommendations.
St Brigid’s, the site of the former Woollahra Municipal Council Library, which has now relocated to Double Bay, is currently vacant with no lessee. Possible future uses are being explored that respects the buildings heritage and ensures the space remains available for public enjoyment.
The draft Redleaf & Blackburn Gardens Plan of Management and Master Plan can be viewed in person at the Customer Service Centre, Woollahra Council Chambers, 536 New South Head Road, Double Bay.
Council encourages the community to view the draft Redleaf & Blackburn Gardens Plan of Management and Master Plan.
