Woollahra Council commissioned MacroPlan Australia to complete a Child Care study to review child care needs and the types of child care in demand now and in the future.

Over the past ten years, the number of children aged 0 to 11 years in the Woollahra Municipality has increased by 16% from 4,870 in 1996 to 5,657 in 2006. This increase is mostly due to increasing numbers of 0 to 4 year olds.

The total number of families in Woollahra has remained stable (11,629 in 2001 and 11,628 in 2006). The main change was in couples with children 15 years and under which increased by 224 families.

The increasing number of young children requires the adequate provision of local children’s and family services such as child care, family support services, and child health services.

The study included consultation with key stakeholders and current and future parents utilising child care services. The consultation also included a random telephone survey along with a general call for participants.
