Memorial for Children, Royal Hospital for Women’s Park, Paddington.
Incomplete Memory uses the existing sandstone wall of the park as an active focus for memory making. The existing wall is partially deconstructed, leaving a steel and granite framework as its central focus. The blocks of sandstone that are removed, form individual seats and tables in front of the wall, creating a gathering place in the park.
The memorial’s steel framework invites the exploration of children. Niches that are created by the removal of the sandstone blocks invite the placement of tokens of remembrance.
The memorial is both a place of play and a place of reflection.
