  • Report (PDF) to Urban Planning Committee 8th March 2010
  • Minutes (PDF) of Council 22 March 2010

Background

In May/June 2009, the community was invited to comment on three planning options for William Street, Paddington. Each option maintained the existing residential zone, but varied the number of properties that may be used for retail purposes, and whether the retail use may also be allowed on the first floor.

Following the exhibition process the preferred planning option was identified, being Option 1.

Whats next?

The next stage in preparing additional land use controls for properties in William Street is the preparation of a draft local environmental plan based on this option.

What is proposed

The new controls propose to allow fashion ships, shoe shops, jewellery shops, health and beauty shops, florists and artist’s studios on the ground floor of certain nominated properties in William Street. The upper floor of those properties may be used for associated storage or offices or residential purposes. All uses will need to obtain Council consent.

Following Council’s decision on 10 June 2008, a draft development control plan will also be prepared to amend the Paddington Heritage Conservation Area DCP.

This amendment will provide specific controls for the William Street properties, and will include controls relating to Character, Advertising and display of goods and Security.

When will the proposed changes be exhibited?

Public exhibition of the draft local environmental plan and the draft amendment to the Paddington Heritage Conservation Area DCP will occur later this year.
